A Young Pilot Candidate from Türkiye Makes TIME’s List

World-renowned TIME magazine has announced its “Girls of the Year” list, honoring 10 young leaders who inspire society. Among them is 17-year-old Defne Özcan from Türkiye.

Living in Bursa and currently a high school senior, Özcan earned the title of Türkiye’s youngest female pilot candidate to achieve a solo flight while training for her Ultralight Pilot License (UPL).

Speaking to DHA, Defne Özcan said, “I didn’t expect to be featured in TIME, and I was really surprised.” Her father, Önder Özcan, expressed his pride, adding, “I congratulate my daughter on her achievements and wish her continued success.”
